It is funny how things work out. There is a country music festival at the end of August in
Gympie, Australia (near Brisbane) that I really wanted to go check out, but ticket prices are outrageous. SO I decided to email the person
in charge of hiring just to see if there were any job openings. At the time, all that was available was volunteer positions, which still could be a good deal since you work part-time and attend the festival on your time off. I decided against however, because I would end up having to pay for travel and lodging. BUT last week I got another email from him saying that the woman
in charge of
entertainment underwent a last minute surgery and would have to work from her home,
sooo she needs an assistant! And since I expressed interest earlier, he thought I would be suited for the job. :-) It is a 2-week, paid position and includes all meals and lodging. The festival only runs for 5 days, but he wants me there before and after because there is lots of work to be done.
I am So excited about this opportunity and it will be great experience for me. Since the festival starts shortly after I arrive in Sydney, I will literally have a day or two to get rested and situated and then will be on the go again. I will either have a 2hour flight or a day long bus ride to Brisbane where someone from the festival will meet me to take me to Gympie. I have a place to stay before and after the festival and during everyone camps on the festival site. It sounds a lot like Bonaroo which I went to a few years back in Tennessee. There are lots of stages and tons of performers all day and all night long. Sounds amazing! I am not familiar with any of the artists, they are all big time Australian country artists. If you would like to check it out, the website is...
